West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee, who expressed fears on Tuesday that a 'Gujarat-like' situation would prevail in the country if the BJP came back to power at the Centre, said on Wednesday that in such an event, his Government would go all the way to ensure peace in the state.

''We will never let West Bengal turn into Gujarat. All steps will be taken to ensure this,'' the Chief Minister told newsmen when asked how the Left Front Government would defend the state against a 'Gujarat-like' situation if the BJP returned to power.

Bhattacharjee said that during his recent visit to some states, he was asked by the people as to why his Government did not prevent the entry of VHP's international secretary Praveen Togadia from entering the state when it was done by the Bihar Government. ''I told them: Togadia's visits to our state do not make any difference.''

In reply to a question, he said that a strong possibility was emerging for the formation of a Third Front at the Centre. ''Talks are on in this regard in Delhi.''
