It was yet another lethargic afternoon at the Emergency ward of the SRN Hospital post Diwali, when a 20-year-old Kinnar, Seema, arrived with her wrist bleeding profusely. She had apparently tried to commit suicide by slashing her wrist with a sharp object. The pharmacists attending her were taken aback at her condition because this was the first time they were witnessing any suicide attempt by a Kinnar. Shouting (dramatically) in pain, Seema informed that her father's name is Rajendra and she resides at Gadhi Sarain Sabzi Mandi in Shahganj area.

Seema, also told that her real name is Siddhartha. While the pharmacists were still puzzled over what to write in the sex column of patients' registers, another woman Gayatri Mishra entered into the Emergency ward and declared that she had brought Seema to the hospital.

About 36-year-old Gayatri, wife of Shiv Kumar of Daraganj, claimed that she was the relative of Seema.

This further perplexed the junior doctors and paramedical staff, as why would a lady from Daraganj was so much interested in a Kinnar, who are normally deserted by their family members. However, after much confusion they finally decided to examine Seema for starting the treatment. But the Kinnar not only refused the treatment, she also started behaving violently. "She said that she would allow the doctors to touch her only when her 'Guru' arrives at the hospital. We became more suspicious over her behaviour and decided to call the police, to forcibly examine her and give her emergency treatment. But here came another shock. We found that she was a normal male and was only pretending to be a Kinnar," said a pharmacist, who was present in the Emergency ward duty, at that time.

The pharmacist added there was another shock waiting for us. By pretending to be a Kinnar, Siddhartha was earning between Rs 30,000 and 35,000 every month, he proudly told us. In the meantime the woman disappeared from the hospital.

Siddhartha who was admitted to the Emergency Ward, also left without informing on Monday afternoon. "This was certainly a case to remember," he added.
