When will Mahotsava build up?

LESS THAN two days are left for the Lucknow Mahotsava to start but the preparations and set-up are far from being complete. The on-the-spot survey by HT Lucknow Live indicates that the work will not be completed by the day of the inauguration (Saturday). That way the Mahotsava might take more time to go full swing.

The main gate, which is the replica of the IIM-L and the replica of the Secunderbagh Gate and Baradari are incomplete—they have not yet reached the finishing stage. Similarly, the stalls have not yet completed which means that when the stall owners reach the venue on Friday they would have to wait before they can set up their stalls.

Asheesh Srivastav, the architect of the plan and structures, said, “A lot of work still remains incomplete but I am sure we will be able to finish it off before Saturday.”

All the structures are in the plywood stage presently. They still have to be painted and given a proper look. Shopping areas are not ready yet. And till now not even a single shop-kiosk has been occupied. No entrepreneur or artisan has transported his wares to the site so far.

Similarly, not a single ride in the fun-fare area is ready-to-go. “We are trying our best to make it by 25th is the pet statement by all those who are in some way responsible for it,” said Surjit Singh, the swings contractor.

When HT Lucknow Live asked Anand Shinde (set designer from Mumbai), he said: “We are trying our level best to complete the work by 25th. We would have made it by now, had we had the labour force that works in Mumbai. The local labour here, are too slow in executing our designs. Let’s see.”

However, due to inadequate work, the Mahotsava will lose its major visitors and thus the business on the weekend- November 25-26.
