As per his statement to the ED he is director of 16 companies running from an address at Camac Street, Kolkata. He is into various businesses including investment and trading, cable wire, steel, chemicals and cotton.

He is said to be close to Hasan Ali Khan. According to ED, besides advising Khan on his foreign bank accounts, Tapuriah had also helped him (Khan) in getting some contracts for supply of scrap to some top steel companies.

Khan earlier had scrap trading business.
