Being instrumental in bringing this technique to the City, he was briefing mediapersons through a video conference session for orthopaedic surgeons of the region at Reliance Web World, here today.

Dr Jinsiwale said that surgeons using camera computer systems can apply their skills to utmost advantage for patients undergoing joint replacement as the advanced computer navigation system aids surgeons in performing the surgery by guiding them with point perfection.

The incision span gets decreased leading to less blood loss and pain and a quicker recovery. Rotating Platform Knee (RPF) is the latest innovation and helps in complete bending of knee. Similarly, in hip resurfacing, the original hip ball is replaced by a metal ball of the exact shape and weight providing absolute normal functioning. Proper sizing and positioning of the implant has been redefined using Articulate Surface Replacement (ASR).

Dr Jinsiwale said that computer image guided surgery enhances higher accuracy, perfection with consistency and gives better and long lasting results over the traditional manual method.

The precision level of implant positioning and ligament balancing extends the life of the implant and use of 3-d infrared camera avoids any x-ray or other tests, while increasing accuracy up to 0.5 mm.

The patient gets back on his feet within two days and can return to normal working early, while reducing chance of pulmonary embolism in knee surgery.
