Her father has lodged a dowry death case against her in-laws on Thursday.

Till late evening, no arrests had been made.

“Ramesh Chand Sharma, a resident of Ghaziabad, stated in the complaint that his daughter Mamta had married one Sonu, a resident of Behlolpur, Noida on February 22, 2004. Ever since the marriage took place, Mamta was being physically and mentally tortured for dowry demands,” said A.K. Tripathi, Superintendent of Police.

“On Tuesday afternoon, Mamta’s in-laws burnt her over dowry demands. She was taken to Safdarjung Hospital, where she died late last night,” said Tripathi.

“Her in-laws, however, claim that she got the burns while cooking and it was accidental,” said Tripathi.

“Meanwhile, a dowry death case has been registered against Mamta’s husband, mother-in-law Kamlesh Devi, father-in-law Sundar Lal and brother-in-law Monu at Sector-58 police station and investigations are one,” Tripathi added.
