Woman' death: Sirsa doc booked for being lax

Police on Monday registered a case against a doctor on a charge of negligence in treatment that led to the death of a woman patient.The deceased has been identified as Rajrani Nandan, 35. Her relatives staged a demonstration outside the hospital, demanding action against the accused, Dr Arun Tungariya, neurosurgeon in Sangwan Hospital here.

Police on Monday registered a case against a doctor on a charge of negligence in treatment that led to the death of a woman patient.The deceased has been identified as Rajrani Nandan, 35. Her relatives staged a demonstration outside the hospital, demanding action against the accused, Dr Arun Tungariya, neurosurgeon in Sangwan Hospital here.

On a complaint of Rajrani's husband, Gayatri Nandan, the police have booked him under Section 304-A (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), station house officer (city) Hansraj said.

Gayatri, electrician in the Haryana Roadways department in Fatehabad, said he took his wife to Janata Hospital here as she was down with fever. There, Dr Ajay Chetal told Gayatri that his wife had brain tumor and referred the case to Dr Tungariya, on whose advice Rajrani was operated upon on July 3.

Gayatri said that next day, she was taken for a CT scan without his permission. Since then, she was unconscious and, on July 14, she died.Sangwan Hospital director Dr Yogesh Sangwan said, "There has been no negligence on our part.The family was told that the patient's condition was serious."
