While victim Ruchi Bhuttan's in-laws claimed it was suicide, her relatives suspected foul play and blamed her husband Sumit. The couple had been married for six years and has a son.

Ruchi's relatives alleged that Sumit used to torture her for dowry and was having an extra-marital affair with Meera Chopra, a model and cousin of a Bollywood actor.

"Sumit has been arrested. We have registered a case against him and Meera under Section 304B and 120B of the IPC on the basis of the family's complaint," said police commissioner SS Deswal.

Ruchi and Sumit ran a share brokerage firm, Angel Broking, in Bhikaji Cama Place.

On Monday night, Ruchi called up her mother and claimed her life was in danger as Sumit was threatening to kill her.

Around 3am, Ruchi's uncle Rakesh Bahal got a call from Sumit that she had committed suicide. Bahal then informed her family in Sahibabad about the incident, said Maheshwar Dayal, DCP (east), Gurgaon.

However, Sumit denied all charges. He said Ruchi was depressed and had been under treatment.
