Savita (name changed), the mother, left her children home with a relative. Her husband has reportedly gone into hiding fearing police action.

Reena (name changed), the 21-year-old woman, whose father is a veterinary doctor, has accused Savita of kidnapping his daughter. He said Savita called him five days ago and said she had married his daughter.

Rampal Singh, the investigating officer of Bhondsi Police Station, said police have booked Savita under section 366 of IPC charging her of abducting Reena and forcing her to marry her against her wishes.

Singh said Reena called him up on January 18 and said she has married Savita and there was nothing to worry about.

“Reena told me she went with Savita on her own and, therefore, none of her relatives should be harassed,” said Singh. “She also said she loved Savita and that she had married her and they were happy.”

Reena’s father said the family lived in Maruti Kunj in a rented accommodation. He owns a house in Sector 9, Gurgaon, that was rented to Savita and her husband, a tailor, in May.

Savita has a 10-year-old daughter and two younger sons.

“Savita and my daughter had good relations. My daughter, who was pursuing a course in computers from a private institute, visited her sometimes,” said the father. “On January 7, my daughter left home saying she was going to see Savita for buying a computer but never returned.”

He said when they tried to call her, her phone was switched off. Savita too was found missing from her house, he said.

“Five days ago, Savita phoned me and said that my daughter was happy and the two were married. I asked her how she could do that when she was already married, she lied to me and said she has divorced her husband,” he said. “I fear that she has drugged my daughter and made her tell the marriage story to the police officer."

DCP (South) Pala Ram said search for both women was on and their mobile phones were under surveillance.“The women have been located around Meerut in UP,” said Ram.
