Security forces on Friday faced a different kind of stone-throwers leading demonstrations: women.

After the forces fired at protesters in Chanapora area in the morning and injured four persons, middle-aged women poured into the streets, followed by young men.

"Many women were leading the masked protesters with both hands filled with rocks," said a policeman.

The women started throwing stones, backed the crowd of angry men, the police said.

"They turn our sons into mental wrecks by torturing them severely. Boys as young as 11 are not spared. They are out to kill us," said a woman protester.

Witnesses said the stones and rocks were supplied in hand-driven carts and municipal lorries to the women protesters leading the demonstration in Rambagh area of Srinagar.
