Centre of Indian Trade Union (CITU) National President M K Pandhe said on November 4, that though the IT sector employed more than seven lakh persons, the working conditions for women were very poor and said the county must have labour laws similar to those in the US.

Addressing a media conference in Vishakhapatnam, Mr Pandhe said women put in put in more than ten hours of duty in call centres, which affected their health.
Calling for reduction in working hours to eight, the CITU leader demanded proper rules and regulations in the IT sector to protect employees, especially women.
He gave a call to all trade unions in the country to fight for proper working conditions for women in the IT sector and protection of their rights.
Mr Pandhe accused the UPA Government of not paying proper attention to the plight of working women, of whom only 11 per cent were in the organised sector.
The CITU leader also informed the members of the All India Coordination Committe of Working Women (AICCWW) had decided to go on strike on December 14 to exert pressure on the Centre to stick to the common minimum programme (CMP).
