Even as the situation became tense, curfew was imposed in Sopore, Baramulla and areas under seven police stations in Srinagar.

In a late night press release the army said they fired in the air and their firing couldn’t have killed the youth.

The police has, however, registered an FIR against the army. The police and locals said Tahir Ahmad Sofi, 27, was fired upon by the army’s 46 Rashtriya Rifles during an alleged stone throwing incident in Baramulla old town – which was shut down following separatists’ call to march towards the Hyderabad youth, Mudasir Ahmad Malla’s village Parigam in Pulwama district.
