Youths fire in air to create panic in college
PANDEMONIUM GRIPPED Udai Pratap Post Graduate College here when some youths barged into the college and opened fire in the air on Sunday evening, ostensibly to establish their supremacy over their rival group.
Just after this incident, a group of youths attacked the house of a teacher of UP College and beat up some people who had protested when the youths passed remarks on a young girl. The supporters of the teacher challenged the youths and drove them away. The youths then pelted stones on their opponents.
Heavy force was deployed at both places on Monday to avoid any further untoward incident.
According to information, in the first incident, some students were standing near a hostel in the evening. Meanwhile, some youths brandishing firearms arrived on the campus from outside and fired in the air to create panic. The students standing near the hostel sensed danger and fled the scene.
Hearing the sound of gunshot, the local shopkeepers immediately closed their shops in apprehension of trouble. It may be noted that two students of this college had been shot at and injured two months back, following a minor clash between two groups of hostellers. The college had been closed for an indefinite period to restore normalcy on the campus.
In the second incident on Sunday evening, some students of the college, residing in a lodge outside the campus, raided the house of a teacher in Rajeshwari Nagar Colony at 7.30 pm and beat up some of his family members.
The teacher, along with his neighbours, challenged the youths and pelted stones on them. Consequently the youths fled the scene opening fire in the air. It is said that the teacher had scolded some youths for passing remarks on a girls of his colony recently. As a fallout of this, the youths misbehaved with the teacher.
