Zakir, Aashish Khan fail to win Grammy

The lost out the Grammy in the Best Traditional World Music category.

Musician duo Ustad Zakir Hussain and Aashish Khan have lost out the Grammy in the Best Traditional World Music category to a 50-strong South African choir.

Tabla maestro Zakir Hussain and sarod player Aashish Khan were nominated in the category for their album 'Golden Strings of the Sarod.'

However, the Soweto Gospel Choir which draws on the best talent from many churches in and around Soweto, an urban area in the city of Johannesburg, bagged the Grammy for their album 'Blessed'.

The Indian duo's album comprised three ragas - Lalita Ghouri, Bhimpalashree and Mishra Bhairavi.

Other nominations in the Traditional World Music category were Music of Central Asia Vol 2; Invisible Face of the Beloved: Classical Music of the Tajiks and Uzbeks, The Academy of Maqam; Endless vision, Hossein Alizadeh and Djivan Gasparyan; Hambo in the Snow, Andrea Hoag, Loretta Kelly and Charlie Plizer
