Zheng, who became the first Chinese woman to reach the fourth round of any grand-slam event at Roland Garros, slipped to defeat in one hour, 40 minutes.

In a match featuring 12 breaks of serve, Suarez's greater experience proved the difference as she reached the quarter-finals for the second time in three years.

Suarez will play 18th seed Maria Sharapova of Russia in the last eight.
