A woman officer of the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) committed suicide by hanging herself in her house at Bajaj Nagar in Jaipur district on late Monday night, police said.
“Binny Sharma, 35, was found hanging in her home in AG colony (Bajaj Nagar). We got the information around midnight, after which the police team immediately rushed to the spot,” said Gaurav Yadav, the deputy commissioner of police, Jaipur East.
The police have recovered a three-line suicide note, which says, “I am living my last nine years full of lies and defeat. My husband has ruined my life, so as his mother. May god look after my children.”
The woman’s husband, Gurmeet Walia, is an IAS officer and currently posted in Chandigarh. “According to preliminary information, she was in depression for last few years because of her disturbed marital life. Immediately after the incident, her husband was contacted, but he has not arrived yet,” said Yadav.
The body was sent to Jaipuria Hospital for post-mortem. After the postmortem, the body was cremated.
Binny’s suicide has come as a “shocker” to her family members and friends. “Marital problems could have driven the IRS officer to commit suicide,” one of the family members, who didn’t want to be named, told HT. “I cannot believe she could have committed suicide. Binny was a lively person and the sort of woman that everyone would love to meet. But she seemed disturbed because of differences with her husband and mother-in-law,” the family member added.
A 2008-batch IRS officer, Binnywas posted as deputy commissioner in the central goods and services tax commissionerate in Jaipur. She used to live with her two children and mother.
