The district police on Friday arrested Mahmood Mev, who was wanted for his alleged involvement in 10 cases of cow smuggling. He was absconding since 2014.
“On a tip-off, we arrested him from an agriculture field between Bilang and Hajaribag villages,” said Neki Ram, the in-charge of Kaman police station. About 60 kg beef and a country-made pistol with cartridges was recovered from his possession, he added.
Mev also faces two cases under the Arms Act. He is also wanted by the Jaipur police in a case registered at the Harmada police station.
“Mev is the biggest cow smuggler of the district with 10 cases registered against his name under the Rajasthan Bovine Animal (Prohibition of Slaughter and Regulation Temporary Migration or Export) Act, 1995,” said Jurahara SHO Ashutosh Charan. “The cases were registered against him between 2004 and 2014,” he added.
Charan said that Mev slaughtered cows in an agriculture field of Chaniya Khurd and carried the beef for sale to Haryana.
Earlier this week, in a written reply to a question in the state assembly, the government had said that there have been 1,113 cases of cow smuggling in the state in the last three years with 2,198 smugglers arrested. Bharatpur and Alwar top in cow smuggling in the state.
