Unconfirmed reports said that two patients died after being denied admission in the SSKM hospital.

However, hospital authorities were not available for comment.

Officials said the SSKM hospital authorities initiated a dialogue with the striking junior doctors to persuade them to end the agitation but the stalemate continued with the medicos demanding more security in the hospital premises.

Meanwhile, the cease work spread to National Medical College and Hospital where the medicos stopped work in solidarity with the doctors in the SSKM hospital.

The strike caused considerable inconvenience to the patients as hundreds of them were returned. Those included patients seeking admission in the emergency ward.

Junior doctors at the SSKM Hospital yesterday went on an indefinite ceasework in protest against the assault on a colleague following the death of a patient in the emergency ward.
