Feryna excited with her latest item number ‘Gorom Laage’
‘Gorom Laage’ from Ludo ridicules the popular trend of objectifying women in item numbers.
Feryna Wazheir is happy with the sizzling item number she has shot for the upcoming Bengali fantasy horror thriller, Ludo, directed by Q and Nikon (Rajarshi Basu). The song, Gorom Laage, sung by Suyasha Sengupta and composed by Neel Adhikari was recently released on YouTube as a promotional song for the film. Along with Feryna, the music video also features Suyasha of Ganesh Talkies (music band) fame.

Talking about her experience of working with Q and Nikon, the Airlift actress says, “Working with them, especially Q was a completely new experience for me. I would say it was both interesting and crazy. In a world where each of our lip and hip movements are decided weeks in advance, Q has his actors do it all on the set. This definitely gave me some panic attacks. I learnt to speak Bengali (as far as the song is concerned) within half a day, improvised dance moves and even learnt to keep an impassive face with a mouth full of hot sauce. Everyone’s very pleased with how the video has turned out. I guess that is where the genius of Q shines through.”

The ‘arthouse item number’ has been directed by Q, who has earlier directed films like Love in India, Tasher Desh, Gandu and Brahman Naman. Known for his subversive storytelling and non-conformist treatment of films, Q says that the song ridicules the popular trend of objectifying women in item numbers. “Item numbers are generally misogynist tools of promoting mainstream films. For this film, an item song became, for me, a vehicle of satire. So the Gorom Laage number really encapsulates the fun and the irony of these videos (read other item songs) for me. I had a blast making the song. As usual we did it for next to no money. Neel, Feryna and Suyasha were dreamboats to work with,” adds the National Award winning filmmaker, who has also penned the lyrics of the song.

This is the first time that Neel has composed an item number. The singer-composer, who has worked with Q in his earlier films, and is also part of his music band Gandu Circus since 2011 says, “With Q, change is the only constant. It’s never the same thing he wants and as a result, now I’ve also done an item number. This particular track has helped me shed many inhibitions.”
Actors Rii, Kamalika Banerjee, Joyraj Bhattacharya, Ranodeep Bose, Tillotama Shome, among others, are a part of the film that is expected to release online soon.
