Sunderbans lags in healthcare facilities

“One third children are chronically malnourished in the Sunderbans of which 60% are girls between the age group of 1- 3 years,” SD Gupta, president of the Indian Institute of Health Management Research Institute.

He also said that one out of every two children born in the Sunderban villages are born at home and not in any hospital or health clinics and only 5% of these births are actually assisted by medical practitioners.
