Why is Propose Day celebrated? Know history

While the origins of Propose Day are not clearly documented, the tradition of proposing as an expression of love dates back centuries. One of the earliest recorded engagements took place in 1477, when Archduke Maximilian of Austria proposed to Mary of Burgundy with a diamond ring, an act believed to have popularised the tradition of engagement rings. Soon romantic proposals started to become more elaborate and symbolic, paving way to a special designated day - Propose Day, to celebrate this act of confessing love.

Significance of Propose Day

Propose Day helps to set the intention clearly. It does not necessarily mean getting down on one knee with a ring.

The day is also about being transparent about one's feelings and overcoming emotional vulnerability. It can involve opening up to a crush, letting a partner know how much you, or, of course, asking for a partner's hand in marriage. At its core, Propose Day encourages courage and honest communication, helping individuals take essential steps forward in their relationship.

How to celebrate Propose Day

There are several ways to celebrate Propose Day, with no fixed rulebook as such, as itis more about personal expression and how you choose to declare your love. You can surprise your partner by taking them to a workshop based on their hobbies and enjoy quality time together, whether it is resin art, pottery, or any other shared creative activity and confess your feelings along the way.

The celebration can also be more intimate and old-school, such asexpressing emotions through a handwritten letter. After all, it is the feelings that matter, while the scale of grandeur is only secondary. If you are in a long-distance relationship, consider preparing a presentation that brings together special moments and milestones from your relationship. If you don't have any plans, consider taking them out for dinner at a nice place.

On lazier days, she can be found binge-watching, for the nth time, one from her comfort-show holy trinity: The Office (US), Brooklyn Nine-Nine, or Modern Family. Dancing by herself to her peppy playlists, however, is an everyday ritual she swears by religiously.Read More
