This Raksha Bandhan 2021, indulge your sweet tooth wisely with these low-sugar and healthy desserts, as you celebrate the special day with your siblings
Raksha Bandhan celebrates the bond between siblings and is a day when the entire family comes together. Rakhi is also that time of the year when you tend to keep your calorie worries aside and indulge in all the good food, only to realise the adverse effect of it on your weighing scale much later. Festivals can be made guilt-free if the delicacies and desserts are made with healthy ingredients.

Festival time is associated with weight gain and not without a reason. There are loads of festivities ahead from Janmashtami, Durga Puja to Diwali. One can cut calories before and after the celebrations to ensure that our fitness regimen doesn't go for a toss.
Kanika Malhotra, Nutritionist & Weight Loss Expert suggests two Raksha Bandhan 2021 recipes that are not only low in sugar and fat but loaded with nutrients.
1. The Guilt Free Chocolava Cake

Ingredients
2 tbsp almond flour
2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tbsp sweetener
¼ teaspoon baking powder
2 large eggs
2 tbsp melted nutralite butter
2 tbsp unsweetened almond milk
100 gm dark chocolate (55% cocoa)
Method
1. In a bowl mix together coconut flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, sweetener, and baking powder
2. Add two large eggs, melted butter, and almond milk to the dry ingredients. Mix together.
3. Add the cake batter to a greased mould.
4. Bake it in the microwave for about 2 minutes. Cooking time may vary depending on your microwave. It's usually done when the cake starts puffing up over the top.
Benefits
You can indulge in your favourite cake by giving its ingredients a healthy twist. Like in this chocolava cake, Malhotra has used almond flour instead of the regular all-purpose floor which is not considered good for your digestion.
Almond flour is packed with vitamins and anti-oxidants and is a good source of magnesium, calcium, phosphorous etc. The unsweetened dark cocoa is loaded with anti-oxidants too and is good for your heart health. The low-fat almond milk and sweetener instead of sugar makes it a low-calorie snack, ideal for eating to your heart's content.

50 gm makhana (heat in the microwave till crisp and crunchy)
15 roasted almonds
15 roasted cashews

2. Keep aside few of the makhanas and roasted almonds and crush them into medium pieces.
3. Mix the crushed pieces of makhanas and almonds with jaggery.
4. Add 1 spoon ghee to the powder and shape them into small ladoos.
Benefits
Instead of sugar, a natural sweetener jaggery is used to in this dessert increasing the health quotient of the recipe. Jaggery is helpful in controlling the glucose levels and improves overall digestion. It is packed with calcium, iron, potassium and phosphorous. It also gives a boost to your immune system.
Low-fat butter and only a spoon of ghee is used in making this ladoos which also makes it a low-calorie affair.
