Lok Sabha elections 2019: Parvesh Verma invokes his father Sahib Singh in Najafgarh’s rural belt

West Delhi’s sitting MP and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Parvesh Verma kick-started his election campaign Thursday from the rural belt of Najafgarh with a crowd cheering him on.
The chaupals addressed by Verma saw scores of people dressing in saffron scarves and turbans. Many youngsters were seen wearing the ‘Namo Again’ T-shirts, who said they were confident of a BJP victory from the area.
“We need someone young and energetic like Parvesh bhaiyya to be our representative. Before he took charge, the rural areas were neglected, there was no development here. Gradually, we are catching up with the rest of the city,” Narendra Bhandari, a 32-year-old businessman from Dhansa Village, said.
Verma addressed over 20 public meetings Thursday, where he recounted his achievements as MP and also spoke about the development work done by his party at the Centre.
“My father (former Delhi chief minister Sahib Singh Verma) was fond of this part of the city and you all have given me the same love and respect that you gave him. Even when he was in bed during his final years, he would ask me about the progress of work here,” Verma told the crowd at Mitraon Village.
He said he had ensured that the Delhi Metro reaches the rural belt and he also claimed that he had gotten the sanction for a hospital near Dhansa bus terminal, which will be ready by February 2020. It will have the finest doctors in the city to treat villagers, he promised.
“This work (getting hospitals sanctioned) is of the Delhi government but I met our Prime Minister and urged him that the people of Najafgarh needed a hospital. He told me that this was not the work of the central government but went ahead and got me a clearance from the cabinet to begin work on the hospital,” he said.
Taking a jibe at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), for blaming its incompetence on PM Narendra Modi and the lieutenant-governor, Verma said even after the results of the Lok Sabha elections are out, he will continue his campaign for the Delhi Assembly polls that are due next year.
He said, “My father was the CM, he worked so much for you (voters) but never said that the PM is not letting him work. Such excuses are made by people who do not want to work.”
He added, “My campaign will only begin from May 23. I will come to seek your blessings then. The development work can only speed up if we have the BJP government in the state and the Centre.”
Sixty five-year-old Dr SP Bharadwaj said Verma had truly achieved ‘sabka saath, sabka vikas’, a slogan that the BJP has raised during the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
“We are a small village— caste, religion and status do not matter to us. We only want development,” he said.
