Lok Sabha Elections 2019: Sukhbir Singh Badal woos Sikhs in Haryana, projects SAD as their party
The Shiromani Akali Dal has already announced that it will contest the coming assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Haryana, with an eye on the Sikh vote bank in the state, especially in districts bordering Punjab.
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Sunday appealed to the Sikhs in Haryana to unitedly support his party and also promised to provide free power to farmers, if it is elected to power in the state.
Addressing a rally in Kurukshetra, Badal said, “Even as Haryana has the second highest number of Punjabis after Punjab, they never get adequate political representation. If you get united, you will have political strength as Sikhs have a strong hold in about 20 assembly seats of Haryana. This will give you the required representation in the state assembly.”
This was SAD’s fourth rally in Haryana in the past seven months. The party held its first political rally in the state on August 19 last year at Pipli in Kurukshetra, which witnessed protests by Sikh activists demanding formation of a separate gurdwara management committee in Haryana. Last month, Sukhbir addressed one rally each in Ambala and Sirsa.
The SAD has already announced to contest the coming assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Haryana, with an eye on the Sikh vote bank in the state, especially in districts bordering Punjab.
Sukhbir claimed that the SAD always stood behind the Sikhs and took a lead to resolve the problems they faced anywhere in the world.
Meanwhile, a group of protesters, allegedly belonging to Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), waved black flags at Sukhbir during his speech. They chanted anti-SAD slogans. However, they were overpowered by SAD workers and the cops present on the venue. Sukhbir termed them “agents of the Congress”.
SAD Haryana in-charge Balwinder Singh Bhunder said the party will hold its next rally at Rania in Fatehabad district.
