Uttarakhand Congress president Pritam Singh said the BJP is fighting the Lok Sabha polls on “the issue of nationalism and running away from actual issues”.
“Their (BJP’s) nationalism is hollow compared the nationalism of our party, which has sacrificed two Prime Ministers (PM) for the nation.” said Singh.
Singh hit out at the BJP while addressing media persons at state party headquarters in Dehradun on Tuesday.
“BJP knows nothing about nationalism. Congress has lost two PMs, a chief minister of Punjab and whole leadership of Chhattisgarh in terrorist and Naxal attacks in the country. On the other hand, not a single BJP leader has ever suffered even a bruise and they claim to be nationalists while giving certificates to others on nationalism,” Singh said. “Unlike the BJP and their parent body RSS, the Congress had always made sacrifices for the country.”
He accused the BJP of terming all those who do not agree with them as anti-nationals.
“This is only their arrogance that whoever doesn’t agree with their ideology, they are terming them as anti-nationals. Congress does not need their certification of nationalism at all. We have been serving the country before independence when RSS was standing with the Britishers,” he added.
Singh also accused the BJP-led governments at the Centre and in the state of duping the people with false promises and politicising the martyrdom of armed forces’ personnel.
“During the NDA rule in last five years, unemployment, inflation and fuel prices have increased drastically, but nothing has been done to bring them down. Also the value of rupee in the international market is on the ventilator. They are just busy in politicising the armed forces of the country for their own political mileage which is shameful,” he said.
Informing about the preparations for the Dehradun visit of party national president Rahul Gandhi on March 16, he said, “Full efforts are afoot by the party members to make the event a historical one.”
Despite attempts, BJP state president Ajay Bhatt couldn’t be contacted for a reaction.
