Protesters tried to march towards the assembly during the "maharally" and when police prevented them they indulged in brick-bating.

Police used water cannons and tear gas shells to disperse agitators. The rally was addressed by party's senior leaders like Rajnath Singh, Murli Manohar Joshi, Vinay Katriyar and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.

Several people, including policemen, were injured.
