The CBI detained former health and family welfare director general Dr SP Ram for questioning. The CBI has unearthed irregularities in purchase of medicines and supply of instruments to government hospitals. The probe has also revealed substandard construction of health centres and hospitals.

The scam is believed to be the reason for the murder of two chief medical officers, Dr BP Singh and VK Arya, and the mysterious death of deputy CMO, Dr YS Sachan, in Lucknow jail.
