The Qaiserbagh crossing would be beautified soon as the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has decided to give the historic area a facelift with the help of a public sector bank, which has promised to give Rs 25 lakh for the Rs 1.10-crore project.

ROUNDABOUT TO BE ALTERED
  • Dangling wires would be removed and underground duct would be made for power cables in the area.
  • The size of the roundabout would be reduced a bit for smooth flow of traffic.
  • Qaiserbagh is also selected for retrofitting in the Smart City project and the area will be revamped in two phases. However, this facelift of Qaiserbagh crossing is not related with the smart city project.

“A public sector bank has shown interest in helping us. But we want it to fund the entire project, under which we want to create drains across the crossing and create parking space for vehicles so that they are not parked in a haphazard way. This will help in regulating traffic at the crossing. Encroachments around Qaiserbagh would also be removed to create space for smooth flow of traffic,” said SK Jain, city engineer, LMC.

Dangling wires would be removed and underground duct would be made for power cables in the area. The size of the roundabout would be reduced a bit for smooth flow of traffic, he added.

Municipal commissioner Udairaj Singh said, “The Qaiserbagh crossing faces traffic jams daily because of haphazardly parked vehicles. A parking space here will help regulate traffic. The main aim of the makeover is to make the crossing more beautiful and solve the traffic problem here.”

Qaiserbagh is also selected for retrofitting in the Smart City project and the area will be revamped in two phases. However, this facelift of Qaiserbagh crossing is not related with the smart city project.

Sewage systems and water supply connections would be taken up in the first phase of retrofitting under smart city project. A Lucknow point would be constructed in the area that has Qaiserbagh palace and Begum Hazrat Mahal Park. However, despite a special purpose vehicle being set up not much progress in smart city work has been seen.

The state government has been allocated Rs 300 crore for sewage work and Rs 40 crore for water supply connections.
