Aiming for the number one ranking in the country in implementing schemes under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Sunday directed officials to expedite the MNREGS projects.

She said during a high-level review meeting, due to the UP government’s efforts it had achieved second place in the country in implementation of MNREGS.
Efforts should be made to ensure the state gets the first place in the national rankings, she added.“Work on beautification of existing ponds should be expedited and new water bodies should be constructed so that poor, landless and SCs should get maximum work and their economic condition improves,” Mayawati said .
The CM directed that job cards should be issued to maximum number of families living below poverty line.“Complaints pertaining to the job cards should be resolved speedily and timely payment to workers should be ensured,” she said.
She warned that if any complaint was received in payment of wages then stern action will be taken against officials concerned.The CM said that a system of direct devolution of funds from the government to gram panchayats should be implemented.
“Social auditors should be appointed for monitoring of works being carried at state, district, block and panchayat level so as to maintain transparency,” she directed.
