The station officer and a sub-inspector of the Mahila Thana in Bulandshahr, where a minor rape victim was detained for several hours, were on Wednesday suspended while an FIR was registered against unidentified policemen for illegal confinement.
"SO of women police station Gayashri Chauhan and SI Sarita Dwiwedi have been suspended on the basis of interim report submitted by Superintendent of Police (City) Bulandshahr," Additional Director General of Police (law and order) Arun Kumar told reporters in Lucknow.
He said an FIR has also been lodged against unidentified policemen in this connection for illegal confinement.
The two police officers were earlier sent to the police lines after the incident.
The ADG said that during medical examination of the 10-year-old girl, no internal or external injury was found.
"A slide was sent for pathological lab and its report was negative," he said.
Police had on Tuesday arrested a father of three for allegedly raping the girl.
Harinder Lodhi alias Bauna (35) was arrested by the police on rape charges from Bulandshahr Roadways depot while he was trying to flee the city.
The minor from Meerpur village was found unconscious in a field by her parents on Sunday night, where she had been dumped after allegedly being raped, police said.
An FIR was lodged by victims' parents but shockingly the staff of the women's police station detained the girl in lock-up, where she spent several hours and was rescued only after locals protested over the matter.
Taking suo motu cognizance of media reports about the detention of the girl, Supreme Court on Wednesday issued notice to the state government.
A bench, headed by Chief Justice Altamas Kabir, expressed its displeasure over the incident.
"How can the police detain a ten-year-old girl?" the bench asked.
The bench has sought an explanation from the state government and asked it to respond on Monday, when it will take up the matter for further hearing.
