Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav won the confidence vote in the Vidhan Sabha by a voice vote amid boycott of the House by the entire opposition.

Even the BJP members, who initially participated in the proceedings, staged a walk out just before the Chief Minister moved the motion.

Condemning the BJP conduct in the House on Monday, the Chief Minister later said that behaviour of the BJP legislators, who scuffled with the security staff in an attempt to reach the Chair, sat on dharna in the Well of the House and raised anti-Government slogans, made various allegations but were not ready to listen and that was against the basic spirit of the democracy.

Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey clarifiied on the party's charge that he decided the Samajwadi Party’s petition immediately but was avoiding a decision on the BJP’s pending petition on disqualification of turncoat BJP MLAs, the Speaker made counter allegation that the BJP was never serious in following up and its representatives were never present on hearing dates.

“The SP petition was decided in record time because they appeared on dates and contested the case properly," he observed.

The BJP shouted slogans demanding removal of the BJP legislators sitting on the Treasury Benches and were already disqualified.
