Rajasthan man detained for carrying suicide pills near disputed Ayodhya site

Security personnel detained a man with Celphos tablets(suicide pills) near the barrier of Ram Janmabhoomi area in Ayodhya.

Security personnel detained a man with celphos tablets (suicide pills) near the barrier of Ram Janmabhoomi area in Ayodhya on Wednesday, police said.

Deputy superintendent of police RK Sao said Govind, 28, resident of Bhilwara (Rajasthan), was caught with celphos tablets during a security check at the barrier of the Ram Janmbhoomi area.

The police officer said Govind told security personnel he wished to commit suicide after having darshan of Ramlala (the child Ram) at the makeshift temple at the disputed site in Ayodhya. The man was being interrogated, he said.

Security personnel handed Govind over to the local police after they recovered the tablets from him, the police officer said.

The police said the incident took place at 10am when the pilgrims lined up near the barrier for darshan of Ramlala idols installed in the makeshift temple in the Ram Janmabhoomi area. Since entry to the area is restricted, the pilgrims are frisked at the barriers and various other points.

Govind’s family members were informed about his detention at the Ram Janmabhoomi police station, the police said, adding they were likely to reach Ayodhya on Thursday.
