Senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan on Sunday took oath as minister for the second time in four days following a constitutional slip on the first occasion.
“Take a look at the form attentively,” Uttar Pradesh governor BL Joshi told Khan before administering the oath of office and secrecy.
After the March 15 swearing in of chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and his ministerial team, it was found that Khan had read out only the oath of secrecy and not office as provided in Form V of Third Schedule of the Constitution.
Later, a PIL, demanding that Khan be restrained from functioning as minister, was filed in the Lucknow bench of Allahabad HC. The state government then decided that Khan should take oath again in accordance with constitutional provisions.
Four ministers of state - Rajendra Singh Rana, Arvind Singh Gope, Bhagwat Sharan Gangwar and Aruna Kumari Kori — were elevated and sworn in as ministers of state (independent charge) at the Raj Bhawan. Senior MLAs Pramod Tiwari (Congress) and Mitrasen Yadav (SP) were also sworn in.
