Undertrials throw chilli powder in cops’ eyes but escape bid foiled

In a daring escape bid, three undertrial prisoners allegedly threw chilli powder in the eyes of four police personnel when they were being taken to an Azamgarh court for trial on Saturday. Other police personnel, however, foiled the undertrials’ attempt to flee.

The Azamgarh jail inmates Mohammad Israr, Sanjay Yadav and Ramesh Pal were brought to court for trial. Initially, they were kept in a lock-up on the court premises. They launched the chilli powder attack on the cops who were taking them to the court.

As the constables raised an alarm, other police personnel caught the fleeing inmates. A case has been lodged against the three undertrials. The police are investigating the case.

Police said a mobile phone, chilli powder and two SIMs were recovered from their possession.
