A fourth-standard student, who was allegedly beaten up by her teachers when she failed to answer a question during class at a school in Rasara town of Ballia district on Tuesday, died on Wednesday, a police officer said.
A case has been registered against three persons in this connection.
A senior police officer told HT that Santosh Verma, a resident of village Kotwari, alleged that his 12-year-old daughter Supriya Verma, who was a student of fourth standard at St Xavier School, Rasada, was slapped five-six times on her head and neck by the teacher, Rajani Upadhyay, when the student failed to answer a question during class.
Verma further alleged that she suffered internal injuries on head following which she complained of headache and took ill. Verma said he received a call from the school authorities that his daughter was not well. He said he immediately reached school and rushed Supriya to a primary health centre.
The police officer said doctors at the PHC referred her to a private hospital in Mau where she underwent medical examination. As her condition deteriorated, doctors referred her to BHU trauma centre where she died during treatment.
The cop said Verma alleged that school principal Sangeeta Singh and manager Munna Singh misbehaved and used abusive language with his family when they lodged a complaint in connection with the incident.
Circle officer Rasada Awadhesh Chaudhay said, “A case against three persons, including teacher, principal and school manager under relevant sections of IPC has been registered in this connection following a complaint by the father of the girl. All three accused persons were being interrogated.”
