The education department in Uttar Pradesh has suspended the headmaster of a primary who was so drunk on Tuesday that he simply laid down by the roadside before some villagers took him to the school.
Pradeep Kumar who is a resident of Kalyanpur is the headmaster of a primary school at Parsad Nivida village in Lalpur Gram Sabha near near Kanpur. Kumar was allegedly so drunk that he collapsed on the Grand Trunk Road.
Villagers informed another teacher of the school Neelim Kannaujia who rushed to the site. The village headman Sushil Kumar also reached there and he took him to school with the help of other villagers. The headmaster was not in a position to even sit on his chair and fell down, leaving the students stunned to see him in an inebriated condition.
He spent only a short time in the school before heading off to another liquor shop in Dhaursalar where he bought another bottle and then fell unconscious.
The education department was quick to take action against him.
Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA), Jais Singh said that two block education officers investigated the matter and prima facie found the headmaster guilty.
“On the basis of this preliminary investigation, the headmaster has been suspended and attached to the Adangapur school in Bilhaur. Further action will be taken once full investigation report comes in,” he said.
“The conduct of the headmaster was highly objectionable. An inquiry has been set up and stringent action would be initiated against the headmaster after the report is received,” said block education officer of Bilhaur block Amar Nath.
Village headman Sushil Kumar, however, alleged that the headmaster often came to school drunk.
