‘Don’t want my 5-year-old to think that being gay is OK’: Woman rejects gay photographer
The screenshots show that not only the woman took back her request for the photo shoot but also lashed out at her for being gay.
A 21-year-old photographer in the United States was rejected by a woman for a maternity shoot project because of her sexual orientation.
Faith Mary Grace, a professional portraiture photographer from Mobile, Alabama, has said the woman decided to retract her request after she sifted through Grace’s social media account and found out that she is gay.
Grace shared the screenshots of the conversation with the woman on her Twitter handle on December 10.
“A lady texted me asking to take her maternity photos then she decided to find another photographer because I’m gay. RT & share this to show people that hatred & discrimination still exists & it NEEDS to stop. This breaks my heart,” she wrote.
The screenshots show that not only the woman took back her request for the photo shoot but also lashed out at her for being gay.
“I don’t want someone who’s gay to take pictures. It’s just not right. I’m against it and the last thing I need to allow my 5 year old child to think that being gay is OK/right because I don’t want them to be influenced by people like you. I’m sorry that you think that this lifestyle is OK and acceptable. Take care, Faith,” the woman messaged Grace.
Grace’s Twitter handle was flooded with support from people, who agreed that the woman’s behaviour was “absolutely shocking”.
“This is absolutely shocking. Who in their right mind behaves like this? Vile woman - you had a lucky escape from having to spend any time around her! Poor five year old,” Twitter user Rebecca Jeffery said.
“Nobody has control over what they like and dislike. To judge someone on that is so wrong and shows a lack of humanity,” another user John said.
Grace’s tweet was shared by more than 45,000 people and over 64,000 liked it.
Grace has been photographing since she was 16, she says on her website.
“My goal is to capture and show the stories of people, no matter how big or how small. I usually place people in an area that highlights an aspect of who they are as a person. Bringing out the person’s true self through photography is something that I will always adore.”
After her tweet captured unexpected attention, Grace has changed her Twitter handle’s privacy settings. She has made her account private, which means only her followers can see her tweets.
