The accused has been identified as Luv Kula, a resident of Colaba Wadi.

Although the incident was captured in a CCTV camera on Colaba causeway, the police had been unable to track down the molester as the registration plate of the motorcycle was hazy. Police said the complainant, who works for a media house in New Delhi, came to Mumbai a week ago on a business trip. On Monday night after a meeting, the woman was walking back to her hotel in Colaba.

Police said the complainant was talking on her mobile phone around 1.30am when the accused approached her from behind. The woman said Kula, who was not wearing a helmet, touched her inappropriately on her back and sped away as she turned to react.

The woman then registered a police complaint against the unidentified man. An officer from Colaba police station said they had alerted their informers in the area who tipped them off about the location of the accused. Officials said they had combed through footage from around 25 CCTVs of the area around Colaba before they finally spotted a motorcycle rider matching the description. “We then knew that the accused might be a resident of Colaba Wadi. We alerted our informers there and were able to arrest Kula on Sunday,” said inspector Bharat Shendge.
