It had been three months since Manjula Naidu (26) got a divorce and she was depressed with the end of her four-year-old marriage, said the police.

On Friday, she was feeling unwell and her father Muthukrishnan Naidu (60) took her to a doctor. The next morning, however, Manjula refused to open the door of her room. The family broke the door to find her hanging from the ceiling, said the police.

They also said that when Muthukrishnan realised that his daughter was dead, he left the house without telling anyone and never returned.

“I was at the Nalla Sopara police station speaking with the officers about Manjula’s death when I got a call from the GRP informing me about my father’s death,” said Jankiram, Manjula’s brother.

He added, “My sister was our father’s favourite and he wanted her to remarry and have a fresh start.”

Officers from Nalla Sopara and Vasai GRP said that they have registered a case of accidental death in both the cases as no suicide notes were found.

Muthukrishnan and Manjula were cremated Nalla Sopara civic crematorium.
