Battling depression, teacher of Mumbai school jumps from bathroom window to death
A 48-year-old vice-principal jumped to death from the fourth floor of a school building at DN Nagar in Andheri (West), while students were about to take exams on Friday.
Ram Kamble killed himself because he was suffering from depression, read a suicide note recovered from the spot.
“The deceased entered the school at 7am and jumped from the window at 8.40am. We have found a suicide note, which states that no one is responsible for his death, and he is taking the extreme step owing to depression,” said a police officer.
The police said a personal reason might have led to the suicide, while Kamble’s colleagues hinted at professional problems. “It is too early to reach a conclusion, especially when the note says that he does not hold anyone responsible. The condition of the paper reveals that the note was written a few days ago,” said the officer.
A management member said, “All students over past 20 years have loved him. He was one of our best Mathematics teachers. He came to school in the morning with a colleague and even went to the classrooms as students were getting ready to take the test.”
Several teachers from the school said Kamble had been showing symptoms of depression for some time and also facing flak from the school management for alleged absenteeism.
“We have a common WhatsApp group, and the top management had warned him for various reasons,” said a teacher. Police said that they are not suspecting any foul play.
