Maharashtra bandh: 30,000 cops, SRPF battalions guard Mumbai

The police increased vigilance in Maratha strongholds and deployed State Reserve Police Force in sensitive areas on Wednesday.

The Mumbai police deployed 30,000 personnel across the city on Wednesday morning to handle the Maratha agitation.

“Senior officers of all regions are on the field to maintain law and order. In a meeting conducted with the agitators, the police have asked them to ensure that people are not affected. We have asked agitators to protest in a peaceful manner and without troubling people,” said Mumbai police spokesperson Deepak Devraj.

The police have also increased vigilance in Maratha strongholds. “We have ensured tight security in areas such as Dadar, Borivli, Kandivli, Kherwadi, Sewri, Jogeshwari, Bhandup and Mulund,” he said.

Besides the local police, battalions of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) have been deployed in sensitive areas, officials said.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) have also tightened security at railway stations in the city and at terminus such as Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Bandra and Mumbai Central.
