Missing Mumbai cop case: Police custody of accused extended

The two men arrested for kidnapping a policewoman were produced in court on Friday after their custody ended. The court extended their police custody till December 19.

The two — Abhay Kurundkar, 52, and Rajesh Patil, 44 —had been arrested in connection to the case of assistant inspector Ashwini Bidre, who went missing on April 15, 2016.
Bidre’s family members, who suspect that she had been kidnapped and murdered, approached the Bombay high court after the police failed to trace her.
The day Bidre went missing, Kurundkar had called Patil’s number several times. Later, the mobile phones of Bidre, Kurundkar and Patil were traced to the same placen near Mumbai.
Rajendra Mane, deputy commissioner of police, Zone II said, “Since Bidre went missing, no money has been withdrawn from her bank account. We arrested the accused based on the available evidences, but there have been no major development in the case since.”
