A man was murdered at a wedding party in Nalasopara on Sunday night, after he tried to stop a group of youngsters from behaving indecently.

The Tulinj police said Manoj Surve, 21, saw the men were drunk and were dancing and misbehaving. He objected to it and asked them to stop. When the men got angry and started to assault Manoj, Vinay Jitendra Dichavalkar, the victim, tried to help him. One of the accused, Naresh Sharma, picked up a knife and stabbed Vinay in the abdomen. The police said Vinay died on the spot.

Three people have been arrested and were sent to police custody. Two of the accused are being hospitalised for injuries.

Even after Vinay died, the fight continued.

“We have three of the men in custody. Two others are in hospital and will be arrested once they are discharged,” said a police official. The accused have been charged for murder, attempt to murder and rioting,the official said.
