A 28-year-old man was recently arrested in Ghatkopar (East) for allegedly raping and impregnating his friend’s minor daughter.

The man raped the girl earlier this year. However, the matter came to light only last week after the girl said her stomach was hurting. She was taken to a hospital, where tests revealed that she was four-and-a-half-months pregnant.

“The victim said the man raped and threatened her. We registered a case under section 376 (punishment for rape) of the Indian Penal Code and sections 4, 8 and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act,” said a officer from Ghatkopar police station.

The accused was produced before a sessions court earlier this week and remanded in police custody.
