Railway cops stop 33-year-old man from committing suicide on tracks at Mumbai station

The man said he took the drastic step as he was depressed due to a family dispute.

A 33-year-old man was saved by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) on Saturday night after he tried to commit suicide at Kurla station.

According to RPF officers, a patrolling team heard people screaming on platform number one from at 11:27pm. On reaching the spot, they found a man, identified as Sheikh Abdul Latif, lying on the railway tracks as a Thane-bound train was approaching.

Assistant sub-inspector HK Padhi of RPF jumped on to the tracks, and seconds before the train could run over Latif, he was forced by the patrolling team to get up.

“The team saved him just in time,” said an RPF officer.

Latif was then taken to the police station. He is a resident of Daulat Nagar in Mumbra and was on his way home from work, when he arrived at Kurla station.

“Latif said that he took the drastic step as he was under stress due to a family dispute,” the officer said. The RPF officers then called up his mother Jarina Shaikh, to take him home.

Jarina told the RPF officials that he had been depressed since the last few days, but she never thought he would try to kill himself.
