Students barred from appearing for exams register for University of Mumbai’s IDOL

123 students had been barred from appearing for exams due to shortage in attendance

A total of 123 students who were barred from ongoing examinations by their respective colleges due to a shortage in attendance registered for Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL) offered by the University of Mumbai on Thursday. Admissions were open for only a day.

Students who were barred from appearing for exams could not have been promoted to the next class. The provision to register for IDOL, however, will help them save a year by appearing for the IDOL exams. (HT FILE)

The varsity’s IDOL had offered this provision after being approached by the students concerned. The defaulters could not have been promoted to the next class after being debarred from the exams. This provision, however, will help them save a year by appearing for the IDOL exams.

Eleven students from FYBA, 38 students from SYBA, 54 students from FYB.Com and 20 students from SYB.Com enrolled for IDOL.

This provision was open only to students of First Year and Second Year from B.Com and BA courses.

The students will have to study and appear for tests according to the IDOL curriculum, which is different from those of the colleges. IDOL follows an annual examination pattern while the varsity-affiliated colleges offer a semester-based pattern. Once the student passes the IDOL exam, he/she can take admission in the same college or any other college in the subsequent year.

Study material has been provided to the students by IDOL. The exams will be held in May or early June, a month after the regular exams are over.
