Two arrested in Mumbai with marijuana worth Rs33.4 lakh

The two were arrested on Wednesday.

The anti-narcotics cell of the Mumbai crime branch arrested two persons for possession of 167kg marijuana worth ₹33,40,000.

Tausif Rafiq Khan, 19, a resident of Nalasopara, and Parveen Kasamali Jaffari, 40, a resident of Sakinaka were driving a tourist vehicle loaded with three gunny bags containing 130kg marijuana. Another gunny bag found in possession of Khan contained the remaining drugs.

The Ghakopar unit lead by police inspector Shashant Shelke laid a trap on May 16 near the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli link road and caught the accused, who were coming from Hyderabad.

“We arrested the two on Wednesday and they have been remanded to police custody till May 22. Khan and the woman claim to be distant relatives and are wholesalers, who distributed the drugs across Mumbai and the suburbs. Further probe is on and we are trying to get their links,” said Shivdeep Lande, deputy commissioner of police, anti-narcotic cell, Mumbai.
