You don’t see roads at night, only parked vehicles: Bombay HC

“If you have an aerial view in the night, you won’t see any road, but only the parked vehicles”, said the division bench of Chief Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice MS Sonak while hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) on parking spaces in Navi Mumbai.

The PIL complained alleged misuse of parking spaces and non-compliance of concerned DCR, especially by 915 hotels and restaurants in Navi Mumbai. It cited example of a hotel, alleging that it had converted 38 parking spaces into banquet hall and consequently vehicles supposed to be parked in these spaces are now being parked on the road.

Agreeing with the contentions of the petitioner, the court said that all the hotels and restaurants are required to be inspected and appropriate action, wherever necessary, is required to be taken by a special task force. The court has therefore directed the commissioner, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) to suggest names to be included in the task force.
