The incident occurred around 4 am. Ramesh Mohite, senior police inspector of CBD police station said: “The bus was travelling from Mangalveda to Mumbai. The driver, Amrit Kale, 30, had been driving since 4 pm on Saturday and we believe he was sleepy.”

“He seems to have got confused at the flyover that starts on the left side of the highway. He ended up on the divider and crashed into the flyover,” Mohite added.

While Limbubai Shirodkar (35), a resident of Borivli was killed on the spot, the injured were admitted to MGM Hospital in CBD Belapur. The injured include five women and three children.

“The injured are all out of danger. Some of them have been discharged. A couple of them have fractures,” Mohite said.
While Kale (30) had initially fled from the scene of the accident, he was later arrested by the police after he surrendered at the police station.

Kale has been booked for negligence causing death and rash driving.
