Two cases of drowning were reported in the city on Sunday.

At 2.30pm, Rupesh Shinde, 22, a resident of Aarey Colony, went on a picnic with his friends to a nearby well, located a few metres away from his house. Getting carried away by his friends’ enthusiasm, Shinde decided to dive into the well, though he didn’t know swimming. Within minutes, Shinde started gasping for breath. His friends, too, failed to save him in time.
Fire brigade officials rushed to the spot and fished out his body. “The patient was brought dead to the hospital. His body has been sent for post mortem,” said a doctor from Cooper hospital.
“We have registered a case of accidental death,” said an official from Aarey police station.
In the second incident, another resident of Aarey Colony Amit Amin, 18, drowned in a lake at Bangoda Gaav between Powai and Mulund. The incident occurred when Amin went for a stroll at Powai Lake. Amin was pronounced dead on admission at Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar. “The case is being investigated,” said an official from Mulund Police station.
